Gates of Heaven

Pura Lempuyang Temple In Bali-> Gates of Heaven And Volcano View

Overview

Lempuyang Temple is one the most famous, iconic, religious, oldest and sacred place of Bali. It has become favorite spot of capturing a mirror image just like a frame for the sky and having a direct view of Mount Agung (Active Volcano).

Among tourist this place is having a different craze due to its scenic/photogenic view and Instagram post/reels (https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cs65FIlNGJc/?igshid=MzRIODBiNWFIZA==).

It is one of the most prized picture spots in Bali.

There is a coupon system and a long queue and waiting time is around 2-3hrs.

Specialty of Bali Temples

One thing which surprised me the most was Balinese pooja style. In Bali people don’t worship statue of god, you’ll not see any statue inside any temple. Here people worship their seat.

This post will shed some light on whether visiting Lempuyang Temple is really worth or not and everything you need to know before you go!

How to get there and best time to visit

Lempuyang Temple is located in eastern corner of Bali, Indonesia.

The best way to travel here is to hire a private car and driver or rent a scooter/bike (my personal suggestion would be to hire a private car and driver and book a full day tour package to avoid hustle free journey as the roads are steep).

There are many other famous places which you can cover same day, details we’ll share below.

You can book a car through Grab app Grab. The Everyday Everything App or you can rent it directly through any booking counter (need to bargain as they would charge little high).

It opens around 5:30AM for tourist. It is recommended to reach here in the morning around 6-7AM. So, you’ll get little less crowd (if you’re lucky).

Entrance Fees

Main Temple entrance fees is around 55k IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) which is equivalent to 303/- INR per person. There is another fees of around 50k IDR (275/- INR) for shuttle from parking area, it’s a round trip charge and includes Sarong as well. Tip or donation you can give as per your choice.

Shuttle will drop you at the top of the mountain from there you have to walk around 5-10min to reach your destination. Please wear sports or comfortable shoes as roads are steep.

Stay

Better to stay in Central Bali if you’re planning to cover iconic places. We stayed in Ubud very famous place and here you’ll get many Indian Restaurants for Veg food and other Restaurants as well for non-veg and seafood. It was in the middle of market having everything at walking distance. So, during morning to evening you can complete your tour and cover famous places and during night you can enjoy in Ubud lane and do window shopping and enjoy massage as well.

Lempuyang Temple is around 70km from Ubud.

Ubud is having all your essential things restaurants, club, saloon, hotels, market. You’ll get free Wi-Fi in every restaurant.

Photograph

We visited Bali in April 2023, you’ll get 1minute for you pictures to get clicked. One local guy will be sitting there, and he will click your pictures. Images which you see is clicked with the help of mirror.

Decide your pose prior as there is a long queue and you have to give 4-5 poses one by one in a 1minute time. If you’re a couple, you will get 4-4 each picture and 4 couple poses with initial video. Photos will be clicked by your phone.

Attire

You have to wear Sarong which will be provided at free of cost. You can choose your choice of Sarong and you have to return it once you’re leaving the temple.

Essentials

Please carry your snacks 🍪 and water bottle 💦 🍾🍼 as it’ll take couple of hours, and you’ll not get many food options there.

It is located at the hill so most of the time whether is cloudy so carry your raincoat/umbrella 🌧️☔. You’ll get raincoat and umbrella in Temple as well, but it is little costly.

Please wear comfortable shoes as you have to walk after shuttle drops you at its drop point and roads are steep so be careful.

Washrooms are there which is paid service around 5k IDR you have to pay.

Other Places to Cover

You can cover other famous places with Lempuyang Temple. We covered 4 places in one day.

Let me briefly share my day trip routine. We stayed in Ubud (Ganesha Ubud Inn, Ubud – Updated 2023 Prices (booking.com)) it is located in the middle of Ubud market having everything nearby.

We started in the morning around 5:30AM and reached around 7-7:15AM. It was raining there so they haven’t started photographing. Around 9 o’clock it started, and my number was 158. We were done by 11-11:30AM.

We went to Taman Tirta Gangga which is around 9km from Temple. It is also very photogenic and you’ll get many spots for photographs. it took 1-1.5hrs to cover Tirta Gangga and then we went to Besakih Temple which is around 16km from Tirta Gangga and went to Satria coffee Plantation and returned to Ubud. So in this way we covered 4 places in round trip and enjoyed evening in Ubud.

Details of Taman Tirta Gangga , Besakih Temple, Satria coffee Plantation i’ll share in other post.

Experience

Overall experience was good as ee were already aware about the total time, weather, best time to visit, essentials to carry and keep in mind etc.

But if someone is directly coming to this place will surely get irritated as waiting time is so long.

We stayed in Ubud so we covered many other iconic places at same day and utilized my time and rental car. Details we’ll share under “Other places to cover” section.

Koverstory Feedback

I am person who is very interested in photographs so yes, my recommendation would be Yes 👍 you should visit this place and make a good collection for your Instagram post and reels.

If you’re not interested in photographs so this place is not for you as there is nothing much to visit except that gate having mountain view. You’ll get similar type of gate that is Handara Gate and many other places in Bali where people can click your mirror image.

If you have small kids and parents, you can skip this.

Please do provide your feedback and comments and any recommendations.
